Project & PlatformData-driven research on the addicted society
Addiction is not a personal moral failing —
it is a structural risk signal for society.
Addiction Society does not treat gambling, gaming, alcohol or digital addiction as merely personal problems. It is a research platform that reads the entire risk system through data — inequality, finance and platform industries, urban and labor structures, and AI — and proposes a new standard for recovery communities.
Data & Reports
Korea's addiction response is split across six ministries
Each type of addiction — alcohol, gambling, internet, gaming, drugs — falls under a different ministry and a different implementing agency.
| Addiction type | Ministry in charge | Implementing agency |
|---|---|---|
| Alcohol & drugs (treatment) | Ministry of Health and Welfare | 63 Addiction Management Support Centers |
| Gambling | Prime Minister's Office | NGCC → Korea Center on Gambling Problems |
| Internet & smartphone | Ministry of Science and ICT | Smart Rest Centers (internet addiction counseling) |
| Gaming | Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism | Game Overindulgence Healing Centers |
| Drugs (investigation) | Prosecution · Police · Customs · Coast Guard | Joint Investigation HQ on Drug Crimes |
| Drugs (prevention) | Ministry of Food and Drug Safety | Korean Association Against Drug Abuse |
"Each ministry operates under different laws, which makes it hard to build a cooperative framework."
With separate legal mandates and data systems, even information sharing is impossible — and no integrated system exists to support a single adolescent continuously from initial counseling through treatment and aftercare.
